The price of gasoline has jumped a lot in the past few years, especially as oil prices have plummeted.
The National Petroleum Council (NPC) has released its latest energy outlook, which shows the price of natural gas at $1.55 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), up from $1 per mmBtu a year ago.
The rise in natural gas prices is not new, but it is a big one for Idaho, which is the state with the highest natural gas consumption in the US.
The price increase is significant because of the state’s high cost of living, which means it can’t afford to maintain high energy efficiency standards.

While Idaho’s consumption of electric cars is significantly lower than in other states, its share of electricity generation from renewable sources is higher.
For example, in Utah, just over a third of electricity is generated by wind turbines, while nearly a third is generated from solar and hydroelectric power plants.
